We have a work day planned at OLM on July 23rd. The day will be spent packaging the socks and underwear for the big back to school giveaway. Until last year they serviced about 100 families. Last year it was over 150 and this year it is over 200 families. An indication of how bad the economy is in that area. The families average about 3 children a piece so that means there are well over 2000 undies and socks to be put into the family bags by size and gender. They need extra hands to accomplish the job. Beside what the people of OLM have collected IHM has donated socks and underwear from Undee Sunday, the day school sock drive, and the socks and underwear from the VBS collection.
If you are free that Saturday we will leave IHM about 7:30 or so and be back by late afternoon or when people need to leave. It would difficult to have small children there but older children are welcome and Sr. would be happy to give letters indicating service hours if they are needed. This isn’t just a women event. I remember how good some of you men were at sorting when we redid the storage building last winter. Of course lunch will be provided. You can let me know if you can make it. In the summer OLM has a Saturday evening (late afternoon) Mass so if anyone is interested you are welcome to stay for Mass before returning home. Last year a CHRP team went down to help so if you are part of group you might want to ask them if they would like to join you.
Please send an email directly to Judy (email@example.com) if you are interested in participating.
